Ioannis Orfanos (GVA) presented at the ULI Europe Annual Conference in Paris Feb 06, 2014

The 18th ULI Europe Annual Conference took place on 4 – 5 February 2014 in Paris and was attended by 570 industry leaders from around the world. Attendees represented a broad cross-section of disciplines, including real estate developers and owners, fund managers, financiers and senior public officials.

Ioannis Orfanos, Director of Green Value Associates (GVA), presented on "Quantifying Added Value in Sustainable Real Estate Investments" at the Young Leaders "X-Factor" Session on Sustainability. The session was part of the main conference on Wednesday 5 February. The judging panel consisted of:

- Sven Bienert, Visiting Fellow, ULI Europe
- Kari Pitkin, Managing Director, Bank of America Merrill Lynch
- Michael Spies, Head of Europe & India, Tishman Speyer

The moderator was Rafael Kisslinger da Silva, Chair, ULI Europe Young Leaders.

 

About ULI Europe Annual Conference 2014: Rethinking, Reinvention and Recovery

The first day of the event incorporated the Winter Council Day for ULI’s European Councils as well as specific programming for Young Leaders, an interactive Members’ Summit and a Leadership Dinner.

Ioannis Orfanos of Green Value Associates was present at the ULI European Sustainable Development Council on 4 Feb, kindly hosted by Tishman Speyers. The key themes were: Distributed Renewable Energy Projects within Larger Scale Development, Climate Change Response and Sustainability Policy and ULI Greenprint on the Green Real Estate Benchmarking.

Nick Kountouritis of Green Value Associates attended the ULI Young Leaders Forum on 4 Feb, kindly hosted by Ernst & Young, in its Tour First office in La Defense. The Forum brought together real estate professionals under the age of 35 from across Europe for a full day specific to their interests. The programme included a site tour, networking sessions and the opportunity to hear directly from Europe’s real estate leaders .

The second day of the event included conference sessions included presentations from leading experts in the fields of economy, urbanism and demographics as well as discussions on key issues led by prominent industry figures.

A thought provoking talk from Prof Sir Malcolm Grant, Chairman of the UK’s  NHS, was the highlight of the Leadership Dinner and helped frame ULI’s Building Healthy Places initiative for European members. Keynote presentations from Pippa Malmgren, Founder of DRPM Group, and Prof. Colin Lizieri, Grosvenor Professor of Real Estate Finance at the University of Cambridge provided analysis on the current economic position.There were also sessions on the prospects of recovery in southern Europe, CRE loans, healthy cities, investment opportunities in Africa and a keynote presentation from Anthony E. Malkin on retrofitting sustainable features into the Empire State Building.

The conference was viewed by many industry leaders as a significant real estate gathering and helped set the real estate agenda for 2014.
